About the Artist
Tesha Hammonds
Tesha's
foremost interest is in portraiture, primarily of human and equine subjects.
The union of man and the horse is a unique alliance existing throughout the ages.
Her challenge is the portrayal of this emotional interaction.
The essence of the subject’s personality is paramount to her work.
She encompasses both the realistic and ethereal qualities of the horse
and manifests this through the use of multi-medias.
From realistic commissions in graphite, to whimsical carousel pieces in
mixed media, she transcends a wide spectrum of equine art.
Tesha
is a self-taught artist, having completed her first oil painting at age ten.
Her studies include charcoal portraiture under Louis Krupp; equine
anatomy under Sam Savitt; the sporting horse under Faye Moore, James Crow and
the late Jean Bowman.
She is
a member of numerous art organizations. She is a member of the New Mexico Vine
and Wine Society’s poster artists. She was the cover artist for The
Appaloosa Journal, Nov., 1996 and poster artist for the Celtic Society of
Grand Junction, Colorado. Her commissioned and published works have been shown in national
and regional competitions. She also produces prints, posters, stationary, note
cards, T-shirts, KeeperCards and racing Christmas cards
with her original images and verses.
Tesha’s
home is in Colorado, but she got there from New Jersey, via Ohio & Texas.
Thus, she can and does relate to East & West horse owners. From the working
horse to the show horse, and from each unique breed to the other, a horse is not
just a horse of course.
